The timing is interesting. Just weeks after launching GPT-5.6 Sol (their claimed strongest model for health), OpenAI is now letting millions of people upload their medical records, lab results, medications, and health tracking data directly into a consumer chatbot. That’s a massive surface area for potential problems.
The Reasoning Claims Need Scrutiny

What we’re watching is healthcare companies and AI companies play chicken with regulation. OpenAI is moving fast, making clinical-level claims, and trusting encryption and disclaimers to handle the liability. Regulators are still figuring out what healthcare AI even means legally.
I think we’re about to see healthcare regulation become much more specific about AI. The FDA already regulates some AI medical devices, but ChatGPT Health existing in this gray zone between “consumer app” and “medical device” won’t last forever.
