The Gap Between Waze and Google Maps

I find the contrast between Waze and Google Maps genuinely interesting from a product strategy perspective. Google Maps has been receiving aggressive AI-powered upgrades for a while now, things like immersive view, AI-generated summaries of places, and smarter search. Waze, by comparison, has been left largely untouched in terms of AI capability.

I think there are a few reasons for this. Waze has always had a distinct community-driven identity.
